Who we are
Omaki is a South African neighbourhood marketplace connecting buyers and sellers within local communities. When we say we, us or our in this policy, we mean Omaki. When we say you, we mean anyone who visits our site, opens an account, lists a shop, or buys from a vendor on Omaki.
What information we collect
We collect the information you give us when you create an account, list a product or service, place an order, or message a vendor. This includes your name, email address, phone number, profile photo, shop details, listing content, messages, reviews, and the contents of your orders. We also collect technical information such as your device type, browser, IP address, and basic usage analytics so we can keep the platform fast and reliable.
How we use your information
We use your information to run Omaki. That means showing your listings to nearby buyers, letting you book services, processing your orders, sending order and booking notifications, helping you message vendors, and keeping the platform safe from fraud and abuse. We may also use aggregated, non identifying data to understand how Omaki is used and to improve it.
Location data
Omaki is hyperlocal by design, so location matters. With your permission we use your approximate location to show you shops, products and services near you. Vendors set the location of their shop themselves. You can turn location sharing off in your browser at any time, but some features such as distance sorting will not work without it.
Payments
Online payments on Omaki are processed by Paystack, a licensed payment provider. When you pay with a card, your card details are sent directly to Paystack and are never stored on Omaki servers. We receive a confirmation that your payment succeeded along with a reference, so we can match the payment to your order. For cash sales between neighbours, no payment information passes through Omaki at all.
Who we share data with
We share the minimum information needed to make Omaki work. Vendors see the details of orders and bookings placed with them, including the buyer name, contact details and delivery or pickup information. We share data with trusted service providers such as our hosting platform, our payment processor Paystack, and our email and analytics tools. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Your rights under POPIA
Under the Protection of Personal Information Act, you have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to ask us to correct it if it is wrong, to ask us to delete it, to object to certain uses of it, and to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator. To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@omaki.co.za and we will respond within a reasonable period.
Data security
We protect your information with industry standard measures including encrypted connections, hashed passwords, role based access controls and database level security policies. No system is perfectly secure, but we work continuously to keep your data safe and to respond quickly if anything ever goes wrong.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time as Omaki grows and as the law changes. When we make a meaningful change we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you by email or through the app.
